NAME IT !

Been enjoying this finger food for a long time now….but never knew the right name……never bothered to find out as well! N , a very good friend of mine and her mother introduced me to this combo during one of the group-study sessions at her place…..three of us got together to study statistics and economics, two boring and tough subjects for me and if you ask me to refresh my memory of that particular day, I don’t even remember what we studied……not even the topic of the study but all I can think of is the yummy spread her mother prepared for us……… and the Karimeen Varuthathu/Fried Pearl spot, prepared just for me when aunty found out that it was one of my favourites………a gesture that touched me a lot…….and then this deadly combo…..dont know how many I had that day……whenever I made this , it was a great hit with everyone……so thought of sharing it with you all….but when I sat down to make this post, I was not able to think of a fancy name for it…….sort of in a brain freeze as too many things are happening at my end……we re in the middle of a relocation………shifting to a new place and home here in US itself……I will be traveling for the next two weeks and once we find an apartment and settle at the new place, I hope to resume blogging…till then I will be on a short break………….with so many drafted recipes and photographs in the dashboard, I wont be gone for a long time….so trust me, I will be back soon :). Since all I can think of is how to transport my ‘curry-chatti’ and terracotta decors in one shape and plants alive, I leave the challenge to you friends, to find an apt name for this trio :)

Well, coming to this delicacy in picture, it is a deadly combination of small bite size pineapple chunks, cream cheese and glace cherries on a toothpick/skewer. This can be served as a pre-appetizer or a quick and simple dessert; pairs well with champagnes and wines too which means it is great for cocktail parties too. I am not sure about the availability of cream cheese back home in India but I am certain that Amul cheese squares works well with this as I used to buy that for preparing this one.

Try this and name the trio too :)

Hope to be back soon…..till then you take care and eat well :D

Shn

We have a similar dessert where we use the pineapple, a piece of cheddar cheese and a slice of sausage. It is always a hit so you're right on the money about this being a crowd pleaser.

  24. These tidbits have a vague familiarity to ambrosia, an American classic fruit cocktail made with pineapple, cherries, sour cream and coconut (sometimes marshmallows), served festively in a glamour glass.

Good luck with your household move, Shn. Moving is one of the top-five stresses. Make sure you indulge in plenty of sweets along the way.

  44. Hello Friends....Thanks a lot ! for trying to name the trio as well as checking on me,.....you all know how to make someone feel extra special.....though it has been hectic, when I received your messages and mails, it was a nice feeling.....though I havent met any one of you in person, still I felt close to you.....your thoughtfulness really meant a lot to me...thanks :)

Well, Pineapple-cherry-cheese stick seems to be the popular name for this one.....Should we go for that or consider some fancy name like the one , Mathew suggested, Fru-trinity? Jyothsna seconds that suggestion too.... What do you say?

Anyway, Saswati, thanks for sharing your experience and bringing out that idea of serving these on whole cabbage...what a cool idea!! I am getting lot of ideas now and cant wait to show off at the next dinner party :D

Kavitha, yes I remember you though I had a trouble with your name....I remember your face quite well, expecially thru those pics in our photo album, still had to check with K & N, to confirm :) Thanks for dropping by :) How ve you been?

Mathew, will take up the tag..thanks :)

Sona I had replied on ur page....hope I cleared the misunderstanding!!

Surya, yes dear, my curry chatti is in good shape :)

  46. Anon, glazed cherries are available in all super stores like Walmart..check the baking aisle or ask a store person......they have a separate aisle for such stuff especially during holiday season....you will find both red and green glazed cherries...

  47. Hello there.. First of all, let me applaud you for this great blog you have got going here. My husband has been after me to figure out this "cheese n pineapple on a tooth-pick" appetizer that his mom used to make.It sounded fairly simple , but i never really got around to making it . This is inspiration enough, i will surely make it one of these days. One quick question .. the glazed cherry , does it have maraschino flavour ?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hi! I wanted to know, which brand of cream cheese did you use? Do they come as cubes or do we have to buy a slab n cut it into bite size pieces? Can this appetizer as a whole be refrigerated? and if yes, for how long? Sorry, I'm asking you too many questions. Hoping that I'll get a reply from you. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hey Shn..thanks for reminding me this delicious appetizer..I remember my uncle had prepared this for my First Holy Communion.. Yesterday I tried this for my son's bday and it became an instant hit..But arranged all the packed toothpicks on a bigger pineapple and it looked nice..Also tried your Orange cocktail...needless to say..it left few ppl still thinking what all tastes are coming to my mouth!

  50. "Cupid's arrows" sounds like an appropriate name

  53. Your blog is really good. One of my cousins recommended it as an inspiration as I am also having one blog created very recently , a week back.

Though I have not seen this snack type the name which comes to my mind first is Tricolor stick!
